All the sunshine we’ve been having of late got us in the mood for some exotic flavours and nibbles, so we paid a visit to Bar Douro in Flat Iron Square. This Portuguese joint is the perfect spot for summer evenings in the city; boasting a great wine selection and rustic outdoor seating, it’s very easy to see yourself whiling away a balmy night in this little haven. But let’s be honest, it wasn’t just the atmosphere we were there for (oh no). The menu boasts a variety of reasonably priced small plates so, obviously, we went all out and ordered a good few. Although we had to wait a long time to be served and get our food, it was completely worth it. We loved the succulent Croquetes de Alheira – or Portuguese smoked sausage to us Brits – and the crowning glory of the night had to be the grilled octopus with sweet potato. It was tender, it was flavoursome and simply dee-lish.
